Stretch & Release Therapy

Assisted stretching and targeted massage for bodies that move hard

Stretch & Release Therapy pairs targeted massage with therapist-guided assisted stretching, built for bodies that ride, run, climb, and sit. In a town like Bentonville, where the trails start at the edge of downtown, we see a lot of legs that have earned their tightness. This session lengthens what training shortens and reaches the mobility that solo stretching cannot.

Who This Is For

  • Mountain bikers and cyclists whose hips, quads, and lower backs keep the shape of the saddle
  • Runners and climbers chasing range of motion their sport keeps taking back
  • Desk-bound bodies with hamstrings and hip flexors shortened by years of sitting
  • Anyone who has noticed their flexibility quietly shrinking and wants it back

What to Expect

Your therapist starts by asking how you move: what you ride or run, where you feel restricted, and what your body is training for or recovering from. The session then alternates between two modes. Targeted massage warms and softens the muscle groups that need attention; assisted stretching then takes each one through ranges you cannot comfortably reach on your own.

Here is the part guests are most surprised by: you do no work. In assisted stretching, you stay relaxed on the table while the therapist guides each limb into position, holds the stretch at the productive edge, and eases it back. Because the muscle has just been massaged and you are not bracing, it releases further than solo stretching allows. Wear or bring comfortable clothing that moves; athletic wear is perfect for this session. Most active guests fold a session into their recovery week every two to three weeks. Note that we do not recommend Stretch & Release during pregnancy; our Swedish Balance Massage is the better choice while expecting.

A typical session works through the body's usual suspects: hip flexors, hamstrings, glutes, quads, and calves for riders and runners, plus the chest and shoulders that fold forward over handlebars and keyboards alike. Your therapist sequences them so each stretch builds on the release before it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Comfortable clothing you can move in; lightweight athletic wear is ideal. Unlike a standard massage, portions of this session involve the therapist guiding your limbs through stretches, so clothing that allows a full range of motion makes the work smoother and more effective.
A massage, unequivocally. You stay passive the entire time, and the therapist does all the positioning and holding. The stretches reach further than what you achieve at the gym precisely because you are relaxed rather than exerting. Most guests leave feeling looser and calmer, not worked out.
Not at all; inflexibility is the reason most guests book. Every stretch is scaled to your current range and taken only to the edge where lengthening happens, never past it. Guests who cannot touch their toes benefit at least as much as the yoga crowd.
Lighter recovery days or rest days are ideal, and many cyclists book within a day or two after a big ride, when muscles are tight but no longer fatigued. Coming in every two to three weeks during heavy training blocks keeps mobility ahead of the accumulation.
We recommend against assisted stretching while expecting. Most of our other sessions can be adapted for pregnancy, and the Swedish Balance Massage is the one we suggest most; just let your therapist know beforehand so they can set up positioning and support properly.
